Firefighter Louis Kazanjian - July 2012
Updated On: Jul 25, 2014
KAZANJIAN, Louis "Yukon" 88, of Watertown, MA, died on July 19, 2012. Son of the late Mary and John Kazanjian. Survived by his three sisters, Anita Hadjian, Rose Kazanjian and Grace Kaloostian; his niece Karen Kaloostian; his nephews, Richard Hadjian and wife Mary; Peter Kaloostian and wife Lisa; his great nephews and nieces, Gregory and Sarah Hadjian, and Peter, Haley and Kayla Kaloostian; and by his companion of 60 years, Florence Lowe. After graduating from Watertown High School, Lou joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served his country in the South Pacific during WWII. After returning home, he began a lifelong career with the Watertown Fire Department. His real passion was fishing and hunting, which he pursued with a single-minded intensity. His nickname, "Yukon", was acquired after he drove from Massachusetts to Alaska in 1953 via the old, gravel Alcan Highway, to fish, hunt moose and sightsee. He also owned a classic 1949 Vincent Black Shadow motorcycle that he took on many trips throughout NE. A member of the Concord Rod and Gun Club and Woburn Sportsmen Club, he was well known among outdoorsmen. Whenever he said good-bye to his friends he always said "tight lines", an old fishing term to convey good luck. His family believes that this would have been his final wish to all his friends: "tight lines" in whatever you may do.
